The 29-year-old singer-songwriter - who was previously married to marine biologist Adam Gouraguine - is said to have split with Hypo weeks before she won the fourth BRIT award of her career at London's O2 Arena last week.
A source told The Sun: 'Hypo was the first guy Emeli had properly fallen for since leaving Adam.
'They got together after meeting through friends and had some amazing times. But long-term relationships are so hard to get right in the music industry.'
Despite their split, Emeli is said to have remained on good terms with the rapper and is still 'really happy'.
Added the source: 'Towards the end of last year they both decided to call it a day and keep their friendship strictly professional.
'It's sad but the best way forward. Emeli's really happy and already eager to put herself back out there.'
MailOnline has contacted a representative for Emeli Sandé for comment.
Emeli won the British Female Solo Artist gong at the BRITs and she took her sister Lucy up on stage with her so they could revel in the moment together.
The singer - whose mother and father were also on her table at the BRITs -quietly got divorced from her husband in 2013 after just one year of marriage.
