EAST RUTHERFORD -- Why did Odell Beckham Jr., Victor Cruz, Sterling Shepard and Roger Lewis go to in Miami after the Giants' win over the Redskins?
"We were going to [Florida] to get our minds right," Beckham told ESPN's Josina Anderson, according to a story posted on ESPN.com. "That's what we we're doing."
The four wideouts have become a hot topic around town after their much-publicized off-day trip to South Florida for an all-nighter (and into the morning-er) of clubbing and boating with Justin Bieber, Trey Songz and other luminaries over Sunday and Monday. The trip came just a week before the Giants' wild card round playoff game against the Packers.
All four players were back at work Tuesday. Giants head coach Ben McAdoo shrugged off their trip Monday, repeatedly pointing out it was their day off. Several teammates, including quarterback Eli Manning and team captain Jonathan Casillas, also said they had no issue with the players going out of state on their day off.
Shepard declined to discuss the trip Tuesday in the locker room. Beckham and Cruz were not made available to local reporters after practice. They will both have press conferences Wednesday, according to a team spokesman.
But Cruz somewhat discussed the situation during a radio appearance with WFAN's Mike Francesa, and Beckham spoke to ESPN, defending the players' decision.
"I handle my business. I'm a grown man. I do what I am supposed to be doing," he said. "I'm in the building, when I'm supposed to be in the building. I don't miss team meetings, none of that.
"I'm not perfect, but everybody knows my passion for football, when I'm on the football field. I'm here for the Giants, especially over the next four weeks. Now, we are about to make a run, about to make a push; it's go time. Everybody is focusing on what they need to be focusing on."
