" FORGOTTEN HEROES THE PREQUEL "

So next month is Forgotten Heroes, for the first time I'm hoping to participate this year, as long as work doesn't get in the way. For anyone who doesn't know what this is visit forgotten heroes
Anyone who regularly visits this blog will know I'm no stranger to converting or building from scratch a model I want to fill a gap based on a character that appears in a particular film or comic for my gaming needs.
I thought I would show a couple that I have not shown before as a warm up to the upcoming event.
VENOM
One of my all time favourite villains is Venom, and have seen a lot of models that I felt didn't captur the character very well, so this is the one I built

and here is the art I based my sculpt from

X-MEN
Another comic group I enjoy is X-Men for these models I used nexus-miniatures models as the basis, and using some of their head kits and some converting came up with these

Cyclops

Wolverine

Beast

Night Crawler

Gambit

Rogue

Storm
They didn't have a model that would easily transform into the Phoenix, so I made one myself, and released it through my company as "the rising"

I've also got a vehicle for them, which I still need to modify and paint. I couldn't find a suitable Blackbird so opted for a Quinjet instead

So what am I planning for this years event, well I want to start the Meknificent seven, you may recall I showed Ro-Jaws that I made for this project, but I want to make all the incarnations of the seven eventually, so I've narrowed it down to a choice of 5 at the moment, Mad Ronn, Hitaki, Nemesis the warlock in Gothic war attire, Purity Brown, or Terri. We'll have to wait and see which one I end up going for next month.
Until next time have fun !
Cheers Dave

  1. Awesome posting, Dave. Your Venom is awesome and you've encouraged me to dig out the selfsame Nexus Miniatures too. Looking forward to your Meknificent Seven with great interest. You're clearly on sculpting fire currently :-)

    1. Thank you Simon, the models shown today were done a long time ago, venom was 6 years ago, and the X-Men were over two years ago, but the current detail on the bust I'm still working on is really pushing my skill level up

  3. WOW! That Venom figure is one of the best I've seen, Dave. As for your Forgotten Heroes plans, I'd love to see your take on the Meknificent Seven as they're a big favourite of mine.

    1. Thank you Bryan, because it was a one off, could really go to town on the Venom model, the Meknificant Seven was one of my all time favourites, planning to use Clint Langley's art work for as many as possible, but obviously there are some he's never drawn

  7. A Venom sculpt based on Simon Bisley artwork (if I'm not mistaken) - ehat's not to like? I'm curious as to how big he is, as he does look somewhat bigger than 28mm. Possibly more in scale with Knight Models SMG range? Either way, it's a diffetent version to those we've sern released so far - although I do have a soft spot for the HeroScape sculpt.

Good work on the X-Men figures too. And why am I not surprised that you will be delving into the annals of 2000AD for your Forgotten Heroes entries?

    1. Thank you Jez, yes he would fit in with the SMG range, as he's also normally drawn bigger than say Spiderman or Carnage.
Would be rude not to utilise this time to make some more 2000 ad characters ! LOL

    1. Thank you Anonymous, glad you found the link useful, Venom was one of those pieces that was done just for fun, but took on a life of it's own

  9. That Venom is a seriously nice piece of kit, quite astonishingly good actually. Will be a lovely addition to anyone`s game collection once he`s done. I know JUST what I`d use him for in my adventures.

    1. Thank you Steve, up to now I had no intentions of painting him as it was an exercise to show what I could do in green for potential customers to see, since being asked to blog, I've found I'm now painting these models with every intention of putting them into a game or two. When time allows of course ! LOL

  10. I just took a little browse at your latest creations, and found myself going Ooo and Aaaa as I started to imagine all the good uses I would find for all the new goodies on display.

I don't get out much nowadays - aka, read as.. I don't browse the blogs much anymore Dave, neither of us do really: what with the dark of the moon `silence` of the house move thing last January/April we did more than just pack boxes and stuff. We practically re-invented our hobby time and that included lots more time playing (a bit of time painting of course hehe) but it leaves little time now for blogs or computers in general. Actually, you`d be pleased to know himself has pretty much finished all the WTW terrain and minis he picked up from you wen he was last over and visited - yes all one hundred or so models, and it has all been well and truly added in to the adventures we play nowadays, and has seen many a game session outing. One day he will no doubt put it all up on some blog or other, but for now, we`re just having a blast playing lots and often: as its hard to do both - play and blog, or so we find anyway.

Keep up the great work Dave. The Game Cupboard looks to be in a nice healthy state. Even if I am a stranger to it nowadays :)

    1. Hi Hils, great to hear from you, can fully understand about the blogging and enjoying the gaming, hoping that once a month one of my old gaming buddies might be coming over so I can get in some more games not just the little bit of solo play I currently do. Work has been increasing as of late so find it difficult to put aside time for my hobby, but posting on the cupboard has helped keep it in balance and is a constant reminder to have a little time for myself.
Always welcome to drop in and say hi whenever your around
