Having always heard good things about this mask I finally decided to have a try myself!
The LUSH cupcake mask is intended for teenagers and teenage skin and called (by LUSH) "The official slumber party mask". I wish they would change this. It's embarrasing enough having to deal with acne into your 20's, 30's or worse, you don't need to be reminded you shouldn't be when your buying a facemask. Saying that, I don't suffer from acne, fortunately, but I could only imagine. I myself thought it felt a bit odd buying the "slumper party mask" when I'm 23 (not that that's very old, but still).
But onto the mask itself! It's a fresh facemask, meaning it expires after 3 weeks and you must keep it in the fridge. Do make sure to check the date of expiry and the date when your thinking of buying as I've heard of people buying them after they've already been out in the store for a week, meaning your getting considerably less bang for your buck. I would think Lush would lower the price when that happens, but that might just be me. Point is, make sure you get the whole three weeks of fresh product! Because you do get quite a lot and you needn't be worried you'll finish it early, unless you have a really large head!
On Lush's us site the ingredients are listed as:
Rhassoul Mud, Glycerine, Linseed infusion, Talc, Cocoa Powder, Cocoa Butter, Fresh Mint, Sandalwood oil, Vanilla absolute, Spearmint oil, Peppermint oil, Limonene and Perfume.I was quite surprised to find perfume in there, but my sensitive skin did not react badly to anything so there can't be much of it. It's also listed at the end so that's also a point. I did expect this to smell more like yummy chocolate, but found the mint smell dominated for me.
I have to say I am absolutely in love with this mask and plan on repurchasing as soon as I've used up all my charchoal masks (I'm on a skincare product finish 'campaign' as I am moving,
twice, in the next few months and wouldn't mind having considerably less stuff to drag around with me!) or if my skin starts acting up.
Now I can not be completely sure that this is what has changed my skin. But I do know that my skin got better than it has been in a really long time after I started using this regularly. That being said, the climate is now much warmer and we are verging on summer here in France (winter never agrees with my skin) and I have also been
really good about drinking pleeeeeeeeenty of water. But I am always fairly good at drinking water, and the winter doesn't make my skin
that bad so I am going to have to say that it is this mask. Which kind of sucks because it's not cheap for 10.95 euros for three weeks worth of product. The price/product amount (75g) itself isn't very bad, but as this mask expires the amount doesn't really matter as long as it's not 5g.
All in all, if you have a bit of troubled skin, or maybe a lot, oily skin, teenage skin too I suppose, and your looking to try something new, then I really recommend giving this a try! At least if you don't like it you won't feel guilty about throwing it out after three weeks and you escape that 'staring you in the face every time you go through your stuff reminding you of how much money you wasted, but still can't seem to throw it away for that excact same reason, even though it's a terrible terrible product that just makes everything worse, aaaah' feeling. We've all been there.
