Blucher

For the last couple of weeks we have been trying out the new rules from Sam Mustafa, "Blucher". I like them, the basics are pretty simple but there are a lot of nuances on how they operate. Also they come with force guidelines and a mini campaign for setting up battles. Maps and counters for a lot of the stuff is free on the Honour website. First off we had to decide what to do about the basing. Sandy and Derek have a lot of 15mm toys but all based differently thanks to all the different rules sets we have tried over the years. Once that was decided an order went in for sabots. We all have a 7mm square at the back to hold a d6. Different colours for each Corps. I had never painted up my toys. After a couple of games I quite liked the rules so went on to paint them up.

13 units of Grand Duchy of Warsaw infantry. Mostly Old Gory with some AB for grenadiers in bearskins and pioneers.

The cavalry and some artillery. AB with a few Minifigs. I've done these with a base representing 2 regiments hence the different uniforms and types, all for the V Corps Grand Army. 

First game Fuentes de Oro.

Loads of vicious fighting over the town.

Angus looks on while "The Traitor McKipper" and I (French) take on our Greek contingent (Russian). Angus has written up an a account on his blog. Don't think Blucher is for him as he prefers really big battalions of 28mm.

Last weeks game again French v Russian this time we introduced Jim to the rules. All the new chaps seem to pick up the basics very quickly.

An overview of the game.

The final move of the game Jim and I launch cavalry charges against Russian cavalry on the hill. I destroy the Cossacks on the right with a flank charge and then we move to the other flank. 2 units v 1 and we hit it in the rear forcing it to re roll hits. We only have to beat it by rolling more 4's than he does and we win while Derek needs to kill 2 of our bases. We have 4 dice and get 2 hits Derek has 3 and gets 2 hits which he rerolls and gets 2 hits. As defenders win draws Jim and I take 2 off each base removing them and Derek wins the game.
